Marlene Mayberry is an accomplished nursing leader with more than 30 years of combined experience in transfusion safety, clinical nursing practice, interprofessional education, ambulatory care leadership, and radiologic technology. Since 2020, she has served as the Transfusion Safety Officer at UVA Health University Medical Center, a level 1 Trauma Center in Charlottesville, VA, where she works under the Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine Services to strengthen all systems associated with safe blood administration. In this role, she leads health‑system efforts in deviation review, process improvement, clinician education, and the ongoing development of a comprehensive Patient Blood Management (PBM) program.
She is one of the co‑authors of the 2021 Transfusion publication, “How did we reform our out‑of‑control massive transfusion protocol program?” and continues to contribute to transfusion safety and PBM initiatives. Ms. Mayberry holds a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Western Governors University and graduated valedictorian of both her ADN and BSN programs.
Her career reflects a longstanding commitment to patient safety, system improvement, and the education of both clinicians and students to advance excellence in transfusion practice and nursing care.
