Chinelo Onyenekwu, MBBS, is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. She serves as a Transfusion Medicine Staff Physician at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics and the CLIA Medical Laboratory Director for the East Madison Hospital Laboratories. Her clinical and academic work centers on blood banking, therapeutic apheresis, and transfusion safety. Her interests span alloimmunization, patient blood management, and transfusion support for sickle cell disease and other non-communicable diseases. She is particularly interested in increasing sustainable access to blood banking expertise through collaborative research projects, training, and mentorship.
Dr. Onyenekwu currently serves on the American Society for Apheresis Sickle Cell Disease Research Sub-Committee, the AABB Global Transfusion Forum, and the CAP Transfusion, Apheresis, and Cellular Therapy Committee. She engages in global collaborations in transfusion medicine and participates in professional society activities to strengthen transfusion medicine practices.
