Kathy Haddaway is the Technical Specialist II for the Transfusion Medicine Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and also serves as the Education Coordinator for the Johns Hopkins Specialist in Blood Bank Technology/Transfusion Medicine Program. Kathy was a Registered Veterinary Technician for 10 years before pursuing a career in the laboratory. She received her bachelor's degree from Salisbury University in 2014 with a major in medical laboratory science and minor in biology. Kathy completed the SBB program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2018 and received the AABB Future Leader Scholarship Award for her SBB project that year. She has served as Technical Specialist for 5 years, overseeing specialized immunohematology testing for the patients of the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her interests include integrating serologic and molecular methods to resolve complex cases and collaborating with patient care teams to optimize appropriate testing and transfusion management for patients. She also enjoys providing education and mentorship for the students in the Johns Hopkins SBB program. Kathy has presented at numerous meetings at the local and national level, has served on various committees, and has co-authored numerous peer reviewed publications.
