Yvette Co Tanhehco, PhD, MD, MS, CABP(AABB) is Medical Director of the Cellular Therapy Laboratory at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Associate Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University. She oversees clinical, operational, and educational programs in transfusion medicine and cellular therapy, including fellowship and residency training. Dr. Tanhehco is a nationally and internationally recognized expert with over 100 publications and a research focus on optimizing cellular and gene therapy approaches for sickle cell disease. She is an active AABB leader and recipient of the 2025 John Elliott Memorial Award.
Dr. Tanhehco obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Microbiology and Molecular and Cell Biology from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY; a Doctor of Philosophy degree in viral oncology from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD; a Medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA; and a Masters of Science degree in Translational Research from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. She completed both her residency training in Clinical Pathology and fellowship training in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
