Dr. Zaher Otrock is the Section Head of the Transfusion Medicine Service at the Cleveland Clinic, a role he has held since July 2023. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic, he served as Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine at Henry Ford Health from 2017 to 2023.
Dr. Otrock received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon. He subsequently completed a four-year research fellowship at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, followed by residency training in Clinical Pathology at the same institution. He later undertook a one-year research scholarship in the Department of Hematologic Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Otrock completed an additional Clinical Pathology residency, and transfusion medicine fellowship training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2022, he earned a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
His academic and clinical interests focus on transfusion medicine, patient blood management, and process improvement. Dr. Otrock has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters.
