Current Position & Roles
Dr. Minh-Ha Tran, DO, is a Professor in the Departments of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and Internal Medicine at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, where he serves as Director of the Transfusion Medicine Service Line for UCI Health. In these capacities, he provides clinical leadership for the transfusion services and apheresis programs that support one of Southern California’s largest academic medical centers.
Education & Training
Dr. Tran earned his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 2000, followed by a traditional osteopathic rotating internship at St. John Westshore Hospital (now part of University Hospitals). He completed internal medicine residency training at Pittsburgh Mercy Health System (now UPMC Mercy) and subsequently completed fellowship in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center.
Clinical and Academic Contributions
Dr. Tran established the UCI Campus Blood Donor Center in 2011 and played a key role in establishing the UCI Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Program. In the latter endeavor, Dr. Tran serves as Director of the UCI Apheresis Collection Facility. Dr. Tran is widely published in areas of clinical transfusion medicine, including patient blood management, thrombosis/hemostasis, and therapeutic apheresis. In addition, he is involved in the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows.
