Tobias (Toby) Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and Assistant Director of Transfusion Medicine and Cellular Biotherapies at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He is double board-certified in Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, with clinical responsibilities in both the Transfusion Medicine Service and Special Coagulation Laboratory, and academic interests spanning transfusion medicine, coagulation testing, cellular biotherapies, hemostatic resuscitation, massive hemorrhage protocol practice, and transfusion-associated complications.
Dr. Cohen earned his M.D. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, completed residency training in Pathology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and completed fellowship training in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine at New York Blood Center. His work includes clinical service leadership, transfusion medicine education, quality improvement, and research focused on improving transfusion support for critically ill and bleeding patients.
Recognized as a future leader by the American Society for Clinical Pathology's 40 Under Forty list in 2023, he is the Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Blood Bank Association of New York State and nationally, he is active in AABB, including service on the Transfusion Transmitted Diseases Committee and also previously the Selection of Abstracts Committee.
