X. Long Zheng, M.D., Ph.D., is the Russell J. Eilers, M.D. Endowed Professor and Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center and an internationally recognized physician–scientist in thrombosis, hemostasis, and transfusion medicine. A pioneering investigator in the molecular pathogenesis of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), Dr. Zheng was among the first to identify and clone ADAMTS13, establishing the foundation for modern TTP diagnosis and therapy. His NIH-funded laboratory has made seminal contributions to the structure–function, regulation, and therapeutic modulation of ADAMTS13, with over 160 publications in leading journals. As Chair, Dr. Zheng has advanced KUMC’s Department of Pathology into a nationally top ranked, research-intensive program with 15 NIH-funded faculty and more than $18 million in extramural support. A distinguished mentor, educator, and international leader, he has chaired major guideline panels for the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) and served on multiple NIH study sections, editorial boards, and scientific councils, exemplifying academic excellence and institutional leadership.
